Professional Organizations:

• American Membrane Technology Association (AMTA) conducts technical workshops and regional training seminars throughout the United States with sessions focusing on membrane technologies, vital legislative and regulatory matters, legal and management issues, funding, regional and federal grassroots lobbying, and other important industry-related topics.
• International Desalination Association   The International Desalination Association was formed in 1985 as a non-profit international organization dedicated to the development and promotion of the appropriate use of desalination technology and water reuse worldwide.
• The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is an international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply.

• On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which included $2 Billion in funding for drinking water infrastructure. The ARRA will fund water and environment related projects through several agencies:
  • US Environmental Protection Agency
  • Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamation.
  • US Army Corp of Engineers
  • US Department of Agriculture

  Funding Agencies

  • The ARRA specifically includes $7.22 billion for projects and programs administered by USEPA. These programs will protect and promote both “green” jobs and a healthier environment. These environmental areas include Clean Water State Revolving Funds and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds, Brownfields and Land Revitalization, and Superfund Hazardous Waste Cleanup. (Link to the USEPA Recovery website) US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar has detailed how the Bureau of Reclamation will spend the $1 billion it is investing in water infrastructure projects — a quarter of which is heading to California to solve that state's water challenges.

  • Find out how The US Army Corp of Engineers will use a portion of its $4.6 Billion towards Civil Works Programs: (Link to the USACE Recovery website) The US Department of Agriculture was appropriated $28 billion (3.5 percent) of the ARRA package and will expand funding opportunities to develop water and waste facilities.
